St. Mary’s Church
Church of England Parish serving the people of Petworth.
St. Mary’s Church is a lovely mellowed building standing next to Petworth House and has strong historical links to the families that have occupied the house over the years.
There has been a church on the site since Saxon times, but there is little trace of anything before the 13th Century. The church was restored in 1827 and again in 1903/4. The Beckett Chapel is pure medieval as are the arches on the north aisle.
