From Easter and throughout the season. Taking inspiration from the much loved story and characters of Wind in the Willows, we invite familes to take part in a riverside adventure trail. Pick up a trail booklet and let the beautiful illustrations of Ratty, Mole, Toad and Badger guide you round our site and tell you about the different creatures, trees and animals that call Coultershaw home. Children will be challenged to complete a variety of challanges along the way and collect 8 animal stamps on their reward chart in order to claim their prize. The trail will be available to purchase on our Open Days thoughout 2022.

Come to Coultershaw for an exciting riverside adventure! Complete our interactive Wind in the Willows Trail, collect your animal stamps along the way before trying your hand at our Wind in the Willows inspired Make ‘n Take activities. Make a Badger badge, a Wind in the Willows shadow puppet and see if you have what it takes to impress Toad by desiging your own waterwheel invention.

Spend the evening on a Turner Art Escape at Petworth House on Friday 1 July. Ticket price also includes entry to Newlands House Gallery in Petworth town, during their normal opening hours for the exhibition Frank Auerbach: Unseen. During this late opening of Petworth House you can experience the work of landscape painter J.M.W. Turner with 19 of his paintings on show. A guest of the 3rd Earl of Egremont, Turner visited Petworth often and painted depictions of the House and Park. Along with a collection of artwork and sculpture to see, they’ll be a string duo playing, highlight talks, a welcome drink on arrival and a pay-for-bar. Be inspired to paint in the stunning surroundings of Petworth Park. Your expert tutor from Aspire Sussex will teach you how to prepare your paper, choose your brushes, compose a landscape, create a wash, select colours, and create elements such as shadows, highlights and texture to add depth to your work.

Experience a magical evening atmosphere of art and culture at the National Trust’s Petworth House during these late openings from 6:30pm. Explore the rooms with their vast art collection, including works by J.M.W Turner and Thomas Gainsborough, along with carvings by Grinling Gibbons. Enjoy a drink on arrival, the music of a string duo, highlight talks and watch the sunset over Petworth Park. Pay-for bar also available.

As part of The Petworth Festival, Coultershaw will be playing host to a promenade style performance of The Wind in the Willows on the 23rd and 24th July. A professional theatrical company will present an adventure into The Wild Wood. A beautiful blend of theatre, story telling and audience interaction-something for the entire family. Performances take place throughout the day (11am to 3pm) Tickets are now on sale from the Petworth Festival website. Prices: adults £10, 18 and under £6 OR Family ticket £25 (up to 4 people, maximum 2 adults)
