Coultershaw Heritage Site Mill Pond

Bignor Roman Villa

Nestled deep in the heart of The South Downs National Park, Bignor Roman Villa is a jewel in Roman Britain’s Crown.

The remains of this sumptuous Villa date from c.300/50AD. Discovered on 18th July 1811 by local farmer George Tupper, this beautiful rural site remains in the guardianship of the Tupper Family to this day. The buildings covering the Roman remains date from the early 19th Century and are amongst the last remaining Georgian agricultural buildings left standing in the country, giving them historical importance in their own right. Light refreshments including tea, coffee and cake are available to purchase from the Villa tearoom, there is also a picnic area if you wish to bring a picnic with you.
