Heritage mills throughout the UK will be open to the public. Coultershaw, which has been the site of mills for centuries, is taking part with mill-themed displays. Plus there be a special visit from traction engine Surprise demonstrating steam-powered log cutting. To find out more about The National Mills Weekend visit the SPAB website
Come to Coultershaw for an exciting riverside adventure! Complete our interactive Wind in the Willows Trail, collect your animal stamps along the way before trying your hand at our Wind in the Willows inspired Make ‘n Take activities. Make a Badger badge, a Wind in the Willows shadow puppet and see if you have what it takes to impress Toad by designing your own waterwheel invention.
Visitors to Burton Mill will see heritage milling in action! We will be milling stoneground wholemeal and white bread flour throughout the day. Our 1880s Roller Mill will be crushing oats and the restored Hydraulic Ram will be pumping water. There will be a small collection of working stationary pumping engines on display. We have a small exhibition on the history of Burton Mill and the restoration of the milling machinery. Admission is free and all are welcome! Open on both Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm. A free (donations welcome) vintage bus will be calling at Burton Mill throughout the weekend. The bus tours begin at the Leconfield Hall.
Join us over the Petworth Heritage weekend to explore the extraordinary art collection in the striking state rooms of the Baroque inspired House. Take a stroll in the expansive Capability Brown landscaped Park, where you might spot some of the fallow deer herd. Relax in the Pleasure Garden, the perfect place for a picnic. The servants' quarters by contrast offer a glimpse of life 'below stairs'. Over the weekend we will have family games for all to enjoy, and art on the lawn to have a go at. The Ice House will be open over the weekend, one of the biggest still to exist in England.

The Ice House, one of the biggest still to exist in England, will be open over the weekend from 1.30pm-4.30pm.

On Sunday 17th, A line art will be inviting you to create a large paper model of Petworth town, inspired by the local area. Simply turn up to the Battery house between 11am-3.30pm and help draw, colour and decorate a landmark to be part of the 'Fold Your Town’ creation.
Visit our picturesque heritage site to watch a working waterwheel power an 18th century beam pump to produce an impressive fountain. Go on a riverside adventure by taking part in our Doris Duck Detective trail and recieve a goody bag (£3). There are free craft activities and visitors are welcome to picnic on the riverbank. This weekend has something for all ages and interests and not to be missed! Refreshments available in the former canal warehouse Open between 11am and 4:30pm on both days.
